I don't know about you, but my morning routine is basically my meditation. If any steps are skipped I just feel off the rest of the day! Over the years I've found tricks, shortcuts, and products that have cut the time used for the makeup portion of my routine in half!
I am by no means a professional makeup artist, however I do take pride in presenting myself to the world in a fabulous manner- it makes me feel strong, confident, and even a little powerful! [yup, I'm totally flexing my muscles, looking fierce right now!]
Here are some great products that will not break the bank, and have been #blondeamazonapproved
First things first, after getting squeaky clean and moisturized I apply a light layer of foundation. I wish I was one of those beauty-babes you see all over the internet, who can wear just a light coverage BB Cream, CC Cream...my god they even have EE creams now...but I have just become comfortable wearing more of a medium to complete coverage product.
I've used L'Oreal foundations since my college years...shhhhh...we won't talk about how long ago that was! Recently I tried the Lumi line, and was SO excited when the Lumi Cushion foundation launched that naturally, I had to give it a try, especially at only $15.99! I LOVE the coverage- not too heavy, not too sheer, perfect color match for my complexion (light with pink undertones- thanks Irish/German heritage for making me basically pink), and it feels like I just have my moisturizer on!
The next step is stepping up my brow-game...well, I don't even HAVE a brow game...so I guess it's more or less me "adding" my eyebrows. I am so jealous of the lucky ladies whose genetic code gifted them with Brooke Shields worthy brows! My secret weapon is Anastasia of Beverly Hills Dip Brow ( I use the blonde shade) and the combination brush with a spooly. Get both for only $36! The Dip Brow pot will last forever....I mean, I seriously think I have had it for at least a year, and I have a few months left- the ROI on that baby is amazing!
Next it's PRIME-time, and some fun with eyeshadow! I've tried a billion eyeshadow primers, and Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion (original formula) is only $20, and will last you at least 6 months, works like a charm. I used to think primer was just a way for the beauty industry to take even MORE of my hard earned cash- but it really packs a punch by setting your shadows, and amping up the pigment.
Eyeshadow is my favorite makeup of all time, it's so fun! You can literally create endless looks and combinations with just a few colors. The Gwen Stafani for Urban Decay Eyeshadow Palette has a great range of matte and shimmer neutrals, along with a few pops of color for $58. My faves are Blonde, Bathwater, Zone, and Punk.
After swiping my lids with Gwen's gorgeous shadows I apply undereye concealer. This has been a struggle, I could write an epic Odysseus would be weary reading about trying to find the perfect concealer. I have a few favorites that I rotate depending on how my skin is behaving, but I recently took the plunge on Amazing Cosmetics Concealer ($42 for full size concealer) and chose to get the Flawless Face Kit in Light Beige to maximize my ROI. The kit included a smaller concealer bottle, application brush, setting powder, primer, and a cute little travel bag to store it in. I'm SO impressed with the coverage the concealer gives me for my undereyes, and will be purchasing a full size when I run out!
At this point it's only been about 7-10 minutes, depending if I've started drinking my coffee or perusing Instagram (helloooooo distractions). This is the step most of us fear- eyeliner and mascara! I love a wingtip or cateye look for everyday with loads of mascara to plump up my puny blonde lashes. Kat Von D's Tattoo Liner is a godsend...no seriously, I think the fabulous Amazon upstairs grew tired of watching us struggle on the daily and gifted us with this eyeliner! It doesn't budge, flake, or fade, and is SO easy to glide across your lids- for a measley price of $19!
